Youth Scholarship Process

The individual recommended for the scholarship awards should meet these criteria:

  1. Any youth that has participated in and has been an active volunteer at your local fair for several years but at least one year. If your local fair awards scholarships, it is up to your officials to decide which application should move on to the state competition.
  2. Qualified youth shall be a senior in high school or enrolled in a post-secondary program of studies (college, trade school or military) but not having reached their 21st birthday by October 1st of the applying year.
  3. Youth nomination must represent the county of the nominating fair.
  4. Application requires an essay, written by the applicant to “Describe how your personal life skills have been enhanced by your involvement in your local fair activities.” There is a maximum of 500-600 words for this essay.
  5. Each application must be accompanied by a one-page letter of recommendation from the local fair board.
  6. One entry per fair. Every fair is encouraged to submit a scholarship application.
  7. There will be six winners from across the state. Two winners from each zone.
  8. Selection of winners will be by the awards committee at the fall KAFHS meeting.
  9. Deadline for entries shall be October 1st. Email completed application to: luasbury@outlook.com. The person submitting your nominee should receive a message of receipt within a few days.   10. Winners will receive a $2,000 cash scholarship and a plaque.
  11. Scholarships may be won only one time.
